Spring Blog Post #1: Close Reading Strategies
I believe close reading is a great strategy to gain a better understanding of an article. Close reading is a very in depth, and detailed way of analyzing the text to gain a better understanding of the true meaning. I believe close reading should be used for very important documents such as papers you are using to research for projects or if you're gaining information for a discussion. I suggest keeping taking close reading seriously because it will help you out greatly at the end of whatever your goal is. Your paper/argument will practically right itself. While annotating "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathon Swift, it took me a second read through to understand he was using satire when writing this paper and wasn't just a crazy guy. The only reason I even read it a second time was because I was practicing my close reading skills and going more in depth with the work. This is a great example of why its important to really analyze the work multiple times. Its always a good idea to research the author of a paper and the background behind the paper as well to get a better understanding of the purpose.
